John Winchester is a piece of work and, as such, is always fun to write. He's a soldier playing at being a warrior, and he so deliberately focuses on his Mission it's borderline sociopathic. Thus, fun. :)
The Trickster is also fun. He's still an archangel, just now also a Trickster, which leads to some terrible things for everyone he focuses on.
My inner canon for the epilogue of this? Dean never stops waiting. It's hard to grieve without a corpse.
