So I have been a tad busy lately and writing has fallen by the wayside. There has been house-hunting, my first week of online classes, many visits with my uncle, and I joined a writer's group (which seems like it's going to be a blast). I have been trying to write, but I don't think anything serious will happen until tomorrow...provided I can buy coffee creamer. COFFEE OR DEATH!
A lot of my clients have big families. They have them for general reasons. Lack of education is a big reason. They literally don't know how not to have a big family, i.e., proper ways to ensure birth control. I have mothers who buy their drugs with sex. Things like that. On that note, if I hear that the woman needs to close her legs one more time, I'm going to cut a bitch. It takes two to tango, assholes.
But I sometimes look at the families on my caseload and the people around me and wonder how many of them actively wanted children. How many of them have children because they lack knowledge of birth control? Have children as a tool to manipulate the system (which is very, very popular)? Have children because people are supposed to have children, duh?
That last one annoys the hell out of me. I hate when people tell you what you're supposed to do, like you're supposed to get married and have kids and all that fun shit. Fuck you.
I read a comment someone posted to a childfree article. It sickened me. The person basically stated you need children to watch over you when you're older because your friends will be as old as you are and they will have their own families and lives. So basically you're telling me you want children for a specific task, one you don't trust your friends (who are all the same age group, obviously) to help you with, because they have families and lives and obviously your kids don't?
Yeah. Nice argument.
I look at these families and wonder how much of that is their logic. I wonder if they look at them as babies to coo over and forget about everything that they will affect as an adult and how they will need to live as an adult. It's like when you look at a kitten and someone warns you it'll eventually be a cat? Do people do that when someone is talking about getting pregnant? "Oh, it'll be cute as a baby, but it'll grow up to be an adult. Can you afford that many adults? Oh, I see you're pregnant with twins. You may end up needing to throw one in a bag into the river. Don't worry: you won't miss it."
...actually, I would miss the kitten more than the baby. Kittens and cats are cute. Babies and adults...not quite so much.
